Contractor Profile – Four Agency

Wonk

As we build towards the launch of the new Calanais Visitor Centre website, we’re shining a spotlight on the creative team behind it – Four Agency.

It’s been fantastic working with James and the team, whose approach to design is deeply rooted in empathy and respect for place.

“We prioritise lasting impact over novelty. Our collaborative approach ensures that we listen first and design second, allowing for solutions that are both inclusive and enduring.” – Four Agency

Over the past few months, the Calanais and Four teams have been working closely to ensure the new website speaks to a wide range of audiences. By bringing together research, design, technology and storytelling, the aim is to create an experience that is both meaningful and memorable.

With Gaelic playing an important role in the project, the Four team have also been developing a deeper understanding of Hebridean heritage and Gaelic culture – and how to interpret this in ways that resonate with diverse audiences.

“The experience of designing for remote, high-profile heritage contexts has been invaluable, offering insights and skills that will inform future work. The team takes great pride in contributing to a project that will have a long-lasting impact.” – Four Agency

It was a pleasure to welcome James Welbourn and Billie Hood to the Isle of Lewis at the start of the project, where they visited the Calanais Stones and experienced first-hand the landscape, history, spirit AND WEATHER that inspired the work.
